La commune d’Argentan souhaite agrandir la salle de sport Michel Pelchat, située au Sud-Ouest du centre-ville, dans le secteur des équipements sportifs. L’extension, au Sud-Est de la salle existante, accueillera deux fonctions distinctes : le Club House et le Service des sports, chacune pouvant fonctionner de manière indépendante. Le projet vise également à ouvrir la salle sur l’extérieur, offrant une vitrine attractive depuis la rue du Paty.
Notre approche valorise le site en créant un dialogue entre l’existant et la nouvelle extension, jouant sur les vues et la topographie : L’extension se positionne en front de bâti, visible depuis le parking et la rue / Elle s’adapte à la topographie, à demi-niveau entre la salle et le parking, avec un parvis accessible par rampes et escaliers / Le Club House, en façade Sud, comprend une salle de convivialité connectée visuellement à la salle Michel Pelchat, tandis que le Service des sports, au Nord-Est, bénéficie de vues sur le parc et la rue / L’extension se relie à l’existant par un couloir d’accès et de grandes ouvertures assurant une continuité visuelle.
Le volume central du Club House adopte un dôme, prolongé par un auvent courbe sur le parvis Sud, rappelant les toitures du gymnase existant et apportant une lumière zénithale naturelle. La structure repose sur une ossature bois, tandis que le bardage mat noir souligne le contraste entre l’auvent et le dôme lumineux, affirmant l’identité de l’extension tout en respectant le bâtiment existant.

The municipality of Argentan plans to expand the Michel Pelchat sports hall, located in the southwest of the town center within the sports facilities area. The extension, situated to the southeast of the existing hall, will host two distinct functions: a Club House and the Sports Department, each operating independently. The project also aims to open the hall to the outside, creating an attractive showcase from Rue du Paty.
Our approach enhances the site by creating a dialogue between the existing building and the new extension, playing with views and topography: The extension is positioned at the front of the existing building, visible from the parking lot and the street / It adapts to the topography, set halfway between the hall and the parking area, with a forecourt accessible via ramps and stairs / The Club House, on the south façade, includes a social room visually connected to the Michel Pelchat hall, while the Sports Department, in the northeast, benefits from views of the park and the street / The extension is connected to the existing building through an access corridor and large openings, ensuring visual continuity.
The central volume of the Club House features a dome, extended by a curved canopy over the southern forecourt, echoing the rooflines of the existing gym and providing natural northern light. The structure is based on a timber frame, while the matte black cladding emphasizes the contrast between the canopy and the bright dome, giving the extension its own identity while harmonizing with the existing building.
