Le projet s’inscrit dans la démarche départementale d’amélioration de l’accueil des collégiens et vise à valoriser le cadre remarquable du collège Jean Charcot, situé dans le quartier historique de Saint-Servan. L’objectif est de créer de nouveaux lieux de vie et de moderniser les équipements tout en préservant l’architecture du XIXᵉ siècle et les grands espaces de cour.
Les principales interventions sont:
- Création d’un foyer : nouveau lieu de rassemblement, ouvert sur la cour par une façade vitrée.
- Sanitaires : regroupement et extension du bloc existant pour optimiser les réseaux et prévoir la récupération des eaux de pluie.
- Gymnase : réhabilitation complète (dalle, isolation, ventilation, sécurité incendie).
- Préaux : rénovation acoustique des structures existantes, ajout d’un nouveau préau et d’un espace couvert dédié au foyer.
La stratégie vise à mettre en valeur le contexte. Les cours sont laissées libres de constructions afin de valoriser les façades et offrir de grands espaces ouverts aux élèves.
Les interventions sur les extérieurs visent une déminéralisation de la cour d’honneur (aménagement d’un parvis central pavé en granit, encadré de plantations pour redonner symétrie et offrir ombre et convivialité) et de la cour de récréation (réorganisation de la topographie et création d’un « cœur vert » planté, conçu comme espace de vie et de détente). 
Les nouvelles constructions reprennent le langage architectural existant (toitures en zinc, charpente bois, poteaux métalliques fins) pour une cohérence visuelle. L’implantation et les aménagements exploitent la topographie, combinant espaces minéraux et végétalisés, pour conjuguer fonctionnalité, confort et intégration paysagère.
Ce projet propose ainsi une modernisation cohérente, respectueuse du patrimoine et tournée vers le bien-être des élèves et du personnel.  

The project is part of the departmental initiative to improve facilities for middle school students and aims to enhance the exceptional setting of Jean Charcot College, located in the historic district of Saint-Servan. The goal is to create new communal spaces and modernize the equipment while preserving the 19th-century architecture and the school’s generous courtyards. Key interventions include:
- Student common room: a new gathering space, opening onto the courtyard through a glazed façade
- Sanitary facilities: consolidation and extension of the existing block to optimize networks and incorporate rainwater recovery.
- Gymnasium: complete refurbishment including slab, insulation, ventilation, and fire safety.
- Shelters: acoustic renovation of existing structures, construction of a new covered area, and an additional sheltered space connected to the common room.
The design strategy emphasizes the value of the site. Courtyards remain free of new construction, showcasing the historic façades and offering generous open spaces for students. Outdoor interventions focus on reducing mineral surfaces: the honor courtyard will feature a central granite-paved forecourt framed by planted areas, restoring symmetry while providing shade and conviviality; the recreation courtyard will be re-graded to integrate a “green heart” planted as a central space for relaxation and social life.
New constructions echo the existing architectural language—zinc roofs, timber frames, and slender metal columns—ensuring visual coherence. Their layout and landscaping take advantage of the site’s topography, combining mineral and planted surfaces to balance functionality, comfort, and integration into the landscape.
This project offers a coherent modernization that respects heritage while creating an environment centered on the well-being of students and staff.
