Un couple avec deux enfants habite dans une maison à Montrouge depuis 5 ans et souhaite agrandir leur espace.
La maison offre un espace social agréable au rez-de-chaussée pour toute la famille. En effet une extension a été ajoutée à la maison vers le jardin pour pouvoir accueillir toute la famille. Après quelques années, l’espace privé à l’étage (chambres et salle de bains) est devenu étroit pour donner à chacun leur propre lieu privé.
Notre projet recherche à exploiter les qualités et quantités de la maison. La maison est construite par diverses méthodes constructives (la façade NORD sur rue est en brique, les façades EST et NORD finition enduit, et la quatrième façade est le mur du bâtiment mitoyen).
A travers une interprétation pragmatique du règlement du PLU, nous avons décidé de surélever la maison au maximum, tout en gardant une lecture de toiture que met en valeur la maison existante. La grande hauteur sous plafond des tous les étages (3m) est reporté de nouveau pour la surélévation. L’inclinaison de la toiture permet de lire la surélévation comme un toit avec faîtage et diversifie les qualités spatiales intérieure. L’ emplacement du nouvel escalier permet de définir une séquence d’espaces semi-privés / privés (bureaux / chambres) tout en gardant une continuité de mouvement vertical avec l’escalier existant. Les enfants et les parents retrouvent chacun leur espace directement relié avec le séjour du rez-de-chaussée.

A couple with two children has been living in a house in Montrouge for five years and now wishes to expand their living space. The ground floor already offers a pleasant social area for the whole family, thanks to a garden extension that was added to better accommodate their needs. However, over time, the private areas on the upper floor (bedrooms and bathroom) have become too limited to provide each family member with their own personal space.
Our project seeks to make the most of the house’s existing qualities and capacities. The building is characterized by a mix of construction methods: the north-facing street façade is in brick, the east and north façades are finished with plaster, while the fourth side is formed by the adjoining party wall.
Through a pragmatic interpretation of the local urban planning regulations (PLU), we chose to extend the house vertically to the maximum allowable height, while preserving a coherent roofline that enhances the character of the existing building. The generous ceiling heights of 3 meters on all levels are maintained in the new extension. The sloping roof design ensures that the vertical extension is perceived as a natural roof structure with a ridge line, while enriching the variety of interior spatial qualities.
The new staircase layout creates a sequence of semi-private and private spaces (study areas and bedrooms), while maintaining continuity with the existing vertical circulation. This design allows both parents and children to enjoy individual rooms directly connected to the shared living area on the ground floor
