La commune de Quédillac projette la création d’un nouvel équipement socio-culturel pensé comme un « troisième lieu » : un espace de rencontre et de vie sociale intergénérationnelle regroupant une médiathèque, un accueil de loisirs et un espace pour adolescents.
Ce lieu se veut à la fois quotidien et événementiel, calme et animé, connecté et propice au retrait. L’organisation favorise les échanges grâce à de vastes espaces communs, tandis que les programmes publics s’articulent autour d’un noyau central de services. Ouvert sur la rue, le bâtiment invite à entrer ; les espaces enfants bénéficient d’une terrasse intime au nord-ouest, et la médiathèque profite d’une triple orientation sur rue, jardin et terrasses.
L’architecture s’inspire du patrimoine régional tout en affirmant une identité contemporaine. Le bâtiment adopte une typologie simple – toiture à deux pans longeant la rue – dont le faîtage varie selon les usages, offrant de généreux volumes. La toiture, conçue comme une masse flottante sur un socle transparent, met en valeur les activités depuis l’espace public.
La structure poteau-poutre et charpente bois s’accompagne d’une couverture en zinc à écailles rappelant l’ardoise locale. Son dégradé de couleurs, contrastant avec un soubassement sobre, renforce le caractère public et pluriel de l’équipement.

The municipality of Quédillac is planning a new socio-cultural facility designed as a “third place”: a hub for intergenerational social life and encounters, bringing together a media library, a leisure center, and a space for teenagers.
This venue is intended to be both everyday and event-based, calm yet lively, connected yet welcoming to retreat. Its layout encourages interaction through generous communal areas, while public programs are organized around a central service core. Open to the street, the building invites visitors in; children benefit from a private terrace to the northwest, and the media library enjoys triple orientation onto the street, garden, and terraces.
The architecture draws inspiration from regional heritage while asserting a contemporary identity. The building adopts a simple typology—a gable roof running along the street—whose ridge shifts with the activities it houses, providing ample volumes. The roof, conceived as a floating mass over a transparent base, showcases the activities to the public space.
Built with a timber post-and-beam structure, it is topped with zinc shingles reminiscent of local slate. The gradient of colors across the roof, contrasted with a sober base, highlights the public and multifaceted character of the facility
