La commune de Rugles a signé en 2022 une convention avec le Département de l’Eure pour accueillir ses habitants au sein d’une médiathèque municipale.
Les locaux actuels de la bibliothèque ne répondant plus aux nouveaux besoins liés à cette convention, la Ville a choisi de réhabiliter et d’agrandir un bâtiment municipal vacant situé en centre-ville. Ce choix permet d’aménager une nouvelle médiathèque tout en s’inscrivant dans le dynamisme du cœur de bourg.
Le projet s’appuie sur le contexte existant pour concevoir un équipement parfaitement intégré et en lien avec les aménagements du centre-ville. Notre démarche vise à valoriser le bâti en préservant son caractère architectural et en mettant en avant ses atouts, notamment ses larges ouvertures donnant sur la place de la mairie.
L’extension a été pensée, comme un module en triptyque, dans une logique de continuité architecturale : affirmant une écriture contemporaine tout en reprenant les principes de volumétrie, d’ouvertures et de matérialité du bâtiment d’origine. 
Au cœur du bourg, la future médiathèque s’impose naturellement comme un repère architectural et un véritable lieu de vie ouvert à tous.
In 2022, the municipality of Rugles signed an agreement with the Department of Eure to welcome residents into a new municipal media library.
As the current library is too small ans does not meet the needs outlined in this agreement, the City has chosen to renovate and extend a vacant municipal building located in the town centre. This approach allows for the creation of a new media library while contributing to the vitality of the town’s centre.
The project draws on the existing context to design a facility that integrates seamlessly into its surroundings and enhances the public spaces of the town centre. Our approach aims to showcase the existing building by preserving its architectural character and highlighting its strengths, particularly its generous openings onto the town hall square. The extension has been conceived as an architectural continuity as a triptyque unit : while asserting a contemporary design, it echoes the original building’s volumetry, openings, and materiality.
At the heart of the town, the new media library naturally becomes both an architectural landmark and a welcoming community space open to all.
